1920's Webquest

The Task

Through this Webquest you will be able to do the following:
  • Identify and explain the issues and events of the 1920s in American History.
  • Draw a sketch of 1920's fads and fashion.
  • Use a word processing program to record your answers in the following steps to the right.

This project needs to all be done through the use of a computer, and thus must be typed using Microsoft Word or other similar applications.

The Process

Step 1: First, open a second window for this Webquest, so that you can move back to see your directions at anytime without interrupting your Webquest journey.
 
To get started, let us get a quick introduction to the 1920's at Learner.org by viewing the six webpages there.  Write a brief summary of each page.  Just click on the links Roar or Yawn to continue to the next page at the site.

Step 2: Check out Jazzbabies.com for some authentic 1920's entertainment.  Spend some time surfing this site to get acquainted to the real 1920's.  When you are finished surfing, find a fashion or fad to sketch that represents the 1920s.  Use a seperate paper to sketch your fashion or fad and write a brief disciption to explain it.  Go to the site at:

Step 3:  Check out some of the slang used in the 1920's.  This was the first era in which the youth began to use their own words/language.  Write a school appropriate letter to a friend using this slang instead of your current (today's language) language (needs to be at least a paragraph in length).

Step 4:  The average annual salary in 1925 was $1,236.  How does this compare to the U.S. average salary today?  Complete a google search to find out the average salary today, then use the link below to calculate how the 1925 salary compares with today's.
